My family and I went to the Virginia Beach KOA 2 weeks ago and we rented one of their trailers since we dont have one of our own. My mother in law and her husband also went with their camper. They were able to get a site across from our which was good. It was a nice drive getting down there over the Bay bridge and through scenic delaware and MD. It took us about 5 1/2 hours from south jersey to get there. We had 6 kids with us, ages 7, 4 1/2 yo twins, 2yo, 9 month old twins. Well we have never rented a trailer before but we have been camping many times before. I didnt know what kind of camper we were going to get because my mom in laws hubby made the reservation. The rental trailers are all the same 24 foot model. We got to the campground around 11am and our trailer was not ready yet. The previous family was still in it and it needed to be cleaned. Luckily the in laws were there and we hung out at their camper. The in laws wound up taking the infants at night and we took the older kids because all 8 of us were not going to fit in this 24 footer. We usually take our yearly vacation to myrtle beach, sc but we werent going to drive 12 hours with infants in the car, it would wind up being a 16 hour drive. I can say that this campground was nice when you first see it but it was pretty disappointing overall. They have 2 pools and only one was open each day. One pool had chairs on deck and the other didnt. When I asked the guard if I could bring chairs over from the other pool they said no it was locked. Apparently they dont know how to work the chemicals in the pool and the readings were coming up bad every day in different pools. If you ask me, I think the amenities like mini golf should be included in the price you pay but they charge for each game you play which would explain why no one was playing. Other disappointments were, I asked if they had a schedule of events going on thru the weekend and all they had was a movie playing outdoors. Good thing we were only 2 miles from the beach but the trolley servce would tae 30 minutes to get to the beach from the campground, NO AC on the trolley either. Also when we registered the guy at the counter asked us if we knew about the jets??? I said JETS???? Yes we were 3 miles from the naval air station in VA Beach. SHouldnt that have been something we knew about when we made reservations over the phone. We have non stop jets flying over the campground all day every day. Now I like the jets but try getting 9 month old infants to take a nap, not happening!!! Final bitching moments, water service was shutoff 3 times over 4 days, 2 for maintenance and one because someone pulled their rig out and ran over a hookup making a nice new fountain in the park. Trash service: a golf cart rides around and said trash pick up 9am-5pm. We had trash out in the morning every day and was always torn apart by birds. If they had a dumpster I would have dumped it myself. Now I got all of this vacation for $500 to go from sat- weds. My wife was complaining from the time we got there because we spend $500 to split a condo on the beach in Myrtle beach and here we get a trailer which came with nothing, no pots pans utensils, linens, the outside of it hadnt been washed in who knows how long. I think the green mold outside was older than my kids. Good thing is we left a day early and they credited it to us. But all in all the kids had fun so that the important thing. They loved the big yellow inflatable pillow to jump on. I did too. And the kids learned how to ride their bikes on this vacation. BTW if you ever check out the KOA website, the sites are the same pics for every KOA in the country, but after seeing different stories on here I see we got a dud. My wife doesnt want to camp anymore unless she has a Park model permanently on site at the jersey shore. Id like to still take the kids camping at other places but for now the in laws tae them a few times a year. Sorry for all the ranting on here but this just wasnt a good experience, however I would recommened the Holiday Travel Park down the road from the KOA
