Saw this on another camping site I visit...How very sad for this young family...Seems many safety issues came into play here...Such a tragedy...

That is sad, and so preventable. What in the world was that guy thinking towing a 35' 5th wheel with a Durango. This is the perfect example for all those who tow over their TV limits and say I've done it for years with no problems. It only takes one problem.

I hope you don't mind I posted this over at RV.net  Everyone needs to read this.

I don't mind.  Everyone should read this.  I said it on the other site that I am a member of and of course I got the "I tow a whatever length camper with a truck and it is safe" line...I personally think that there should be a maximum length travel trailer allowed on the road being towed by a passenger vehicle.  Someone on that site said that a Durango was rated to tow almost 9000!!  I could not believe that...that seems awful high to me...Regardless, I still think a 35 ft. camper does not belong on the road being towed by a passenger vehicle.  It is a terrible shame what happened to that family...

I think someone has something wrong on that report. The loss of life in really sad but how does a Durango which is an SUV tow a fifth wheel? Or am I missing something? I do really feel for the family and friends of the young family and may God be with them and their families.

I thought the same thing...We came to the conclusion that maybe it is a Canadian term...One site that reports the story uses all metric measurement and shows a picture of the vehicle but not the trailer.  Seeing that SUV, it is amazing that anyone survived.

Thats what i've been trying to figure out also.  Where is the 5th wheel on the Durango to  accept the king pin of the camper?

Unless he had a pintle hook mounted on the Durango bumper and used a bogie like used when a tractor trailer driver pulls 2 trailers at the same time...

How horrible.....so sad makes me want to cry.      The one report just says 35 ft trailer but the Canadian report says fifth wheel that can't be right.

Reguardless it is a horrible and sad thing
